Sao Paulo is very blue in the centre and then green in the outskirts. Are races very segregated in Brazil?

It's based on census self-declaration, so pretty much useless even if it show some tendencies of course. According to genetics there's a partial overlap with what the map say; from the center of the state of Minas Gerais onwards there's a real ''racial transition'' in Brazil, even if it's more in the form of ''tendencies'' than absoluteness. There are predominantly ''white'' (i.e. 80%+ European) pockets in Northeast and Northern Brazil (what is reflected both in the map and the genetic studies) and pockets of predominantly pardo regions in the South/Southeast.

Not really ''segregation'', the thing is that due to a series of historical reasons people with more European ancestry tend to have better living conditions than people with elevated African ancestry. But it's not really segregation in the US/South African style.

Let's just say if you could ''eliminate'' all people with heavily African genetics (I'm not proposing this ofc, it's just a rethorical exercise), Brazil would become a ''first world'' country almost immediately because the regions inside the cities populated by heavily admixed African people tend to be the poorest and to low down Brazilian social statistics.

The racial map of Rio, on its southern zone, has a full coincidence in favelas = blacks and pardos



Those zones in green/red that appear in the extreme of the blue regions, are favelas in the hills.

Blacks and Mulattos mainly, Rio 22% of favelas, Bahia 33%. The midwest region lmost eliminated the Favelas 0,5%, Amazonia state have 10%. The average for the whole country is 6%.

Let's just say if you could ''eliminate'' all people with heavily African genetics (I'm not proposing this ofc, it's just a rethorical exercise), Brazil would become a ''first world'' country almost immediately because the regions inside the cities populated by heavily admixed African people tend to be the poorest and to low down Brazilian social statistics.

If we made that in Europe or USA (no only blacks, but also other groups as arabs, gypsies latin americans, pakistanis) we would be even more first worlders.
