Ancestry are good for Irish as Daco-Celtic pointed out. The Genetic Communities appear to be very accurate. All dna companies are quite good for Irish because they nearly all have taylor-made categories for Irish people. They do okay for English people but England/Wales is a bit too diverse to fit one category.

    Thanks for posting your results.

Exactly. Some groups fit very well the categories because they are basically matching them against panels very similar to them. No dna companies have categories just for French people for example. Even if they did they would have to split France into different categories because the French population is quite diverse.

That you used the wrong browser, because the numbers aren't in the correct positions. ;D In all seriousness though, that's a fairly typical K36 map for an Irish person - yours is quite similar to my father's if I remember correctly. The map basically shows that your genetics are very similar to other British Islanders (which is probably not news for you) but also very similar to Bretons, Dutch, East French and somewhat similar to Germans and Danes.

Interesting. I have only seen a handful of 100% results before in my life, but if there is one person on this forum that I will defer to on all things Irish it is you. Your daughter's result is super cool too btw, we share the same "North Leinster & East Connacht" genetic community.

Thanks. I find it amazing they picked up her Leinster side because she doesn't have a tree on Ancestry or anything about her paternal side of the family so it's brilliant she got that GC. Her paternal side stems back to the Normans in Wexford.

This is my Ancestry result. They picked up my Roscommon and North Munster ancestry.

Irish results at Ancestry are extremely good but one of their well known spokesperson is Irish. Irish used to get 85+ before the update about a year ago but a lot of trace regions have now disappeared with most Irish now getting 100% Ireland and Scotland. People think this means the Irish are unmixed etc but it just means they match the Ireland & Scotland panel really well. If you look at Ancestry's plot the Irish & Scottish component doesn't form its own cluster. It is between the Norwegian cluster and England, Wales and Northwestern Europe but because the panel is obviously made up of Irish and Scots it matches them really well.

A lot of people don't understand how these clusters work.

Here's someone who obviously is just from Donegal which is pretty cool IMO.

That is pretty cool. I got Donegal on my Ancestry result too but sadly no genetic communities. I find it amazing that they're able to be so specific for some people, though. One of my genetic communities is literally 50km (33~ miles) from one side to the other and inside it is the small village where my grandmother was born. I still don't understand how Ancestry managed to establish that.
