Real French are Gauls.

even though I agree, they are too influenced by germanic Franks, and italic Romans, as well as british in Brittany, norse in normandy, and iberian in southwestern France to be 'true Gauls'

There is no perfect ethnics so if you like it or not French are basically Gauls.

I guess, especially sense the franks themselves were part rhine celtic... although I'd say the northern french are more so then the south french who are more influenced by both meds and MENAs

Family lore is that it is a French spelling of someone who was of Gaul ancestry.

maybe, although I'd say most french are part gaulish, perhaps it's male progenitor was a gallo-roman in the frankish holy roman empire?
