I watched recently a presentation from a leading Indo-European scholar, J.P. Mallory, and what got my attention was how Albanian shares the least amount of cognates with PIE, 226 out of 1364. Even Armenian has more, 289. As a comparison with other European languages Slavic has 503, Celtic 539, Baltic 601, Italic 705, Germanic 761, Greek 772. Maybe to some people's surprise, Indic shares most cognates with PIE, 925/1364.
