Why are most Southern European/Balkan nations sexist and reinforce stereotypical gender behavior, e.g. the cooking/cleaning is regarded as 'women's business' and going to the army as largely a man's job?

Because Western influences haven't set in yet in the Balkans (though it is slowly seeping in with some prime examples on this forum). This form of traditionalism is actually good since the traditional society is the healthiest.

I don't think it's that good, actually. What if the man is better at cooking/cleaning the house than his wife? And what if she's better suited for the corporate ladder than looking after the baby, cleaning the house and doing cooking?

Can a man bear children? I didn't think so.

Cooking/cleaning is still widely regarded as 'women's business' here in the Isles, and I wouldn't say we're especially sexist. 'Stereotypical' gender behaviour persists here, I suppose, though the extent of it would probably differ among the classes.

Stereotypical gender behavior puts people within limits of what they can do. It is so often found here in the Balkans that it sucks. I'm not saying that people should switch, what I am saying is that they should share responsibility and be together everywhere. Also, things shouldn't be labeled as a 'man's truck', 'girl's car', etc. Even the fact that male-specific shampoos are targeted with the 'For men' tag is largely sexist, because female shampoos/deodorants are not labeled 'For women/ladies', although they're marketed towards them, which implies that women are the main users of shampoos and it doesn't help in melting sex differences, which is sexist and demeaning.
