Is the Earth flat?

A Brazilian philosopher who lives in USA (Virginia, more specifically) posted the other day the following on his Facebook (translated to English):

"I didn't study the issue about flat earth. I've just watched a few videos of experiments that show the flatness of the aquatic surfaces, and I couldn't find anything to refute them so far."



A PhD in geology from Universidade de São Paulo (USP), one of the best universities of the last decade (in top 100). He says there's no way the Earth is flat because navigators used to be guided by astrolabe, an instrument developed for a flat earth model.



Also, there's an ultimatum:

The earth is obviously not flat. Flat earth theories have dumbed down a whole generation of internet addicts, it is intellectually harmful.

It's absurd that anyone in 21st century can seriously claim that Earth is flat.

If Earth is flat, then someone located in Berlin could see Los Angeles or Tokyo using telescope, depending on direction he pointed view.
