Default "Authoritarianism is a rightist trait, but totalitarianism is a leftist trait". Discuss.

Specifically referring to dictatorships and autocracies, it seems that right-wing ones revolve more around authoritarianism - obedience, deference and passivity - whereas left-wing ones revolve more around the expectation that the population must actively agree with the regime, support it and participate in its activities. In a very much more modified form, these traits even appear in their democratic forms too - right-wingers prefer to have a population that is essentially passive and obedient, while left-wingers want a more politically active, supportive and enthusiastic public to participate in its activities and genuinely adhere to its beliefs.

N.B. Yes fascism is totalitarian, but whether it is "right-wing" as such is actually much more debatable, hence my argument still stands.

Broadly agree. It seems to me respect for authority is a stronger right wing value whether that be police/military or ones parents, elders or bosses at work. The left is less hierarchical but want you to tow the party line. The right wants you to conform with signals indicating tribal (rather than ideological) allegiance like the flag or an ethnic tatoo. While the left wants you to conform politically and ideologically.

It seems to me the left is more prone to ideological purity spiraling for this reason. They really eat their own for not being 'true believers'. Of course this happens on the right as well but more often I see the right embrace people who signify they are part of 'their team'. If you wore a MAGA hat and posted it on r/the_donald they would call you 'OMG BASED TOOTING CARMEN' while not caring as much what you actually believe. I don't really see leftists behaving like this quite as much. Ethnic minority people can often do pretty well in right wing parties, their phenotype signifies a foreign tribal allegiance, they just need to go above and beyond to signal quite strongly what 'team' they are on by converting to Christianity and waving a British/American/French etc flag. The right usually embraces people once they are not scared they are disloyal to the group. BASSSEEEDDD MILO, BASED CANDACE etc

Plus I'd also add to that that it is a mistake to think one is more collectivist than the other: both are, but about different things. Left-wing collectivism revolves mostly around economics and social class - it is this type that attacks the biggest wrath of libertarians (many of Jewish extraction, oddly): Ayn Rand, Murray Rothbard, Milton Friedman, Hayek etc. By contrast, right-wing collectivism (the dominant mode of thinking in this forum, among other places) revolves mostly around ethnicity, nation and/or religion.

Karl Marx never been in favor of minorities and against capitalism , your book series is called Capital. karl Marx defends the idea that capalism must evolve, since the entire rich of a nation is less than 3% of the population.
Soviet communism, Italian fascism and Nazism (these two motivated by the U.S crisis of 1929) follow the ideas of Karl Marx. the Soviet Union of Stalin was extremely capitalist according to karl marx's idea that people must first be capitalist before evolving into something else.
Unfortunately Democracy was associated with the open and unregulated capitalism of the U.S. (unregulated = without government intervention or laws on the 3% of the population).

The current right is just conservative that may or may not be nationalistic.
On the current left a few are well intentioned wanting to solve social problems, other leftists oppose capitalism and they are (according to theory of deconstructionism) promoting social chaos to take power.

Yes, I noticed european and USA right wing is colletivist/nationalist/ethnocentric, but brazilian right is not really that nationalist. From my experience, in Brazil most ultra-nationalists are either leftists (protectionism against "american empire", etc) or people who don't identify with neither left nor right.

I agree. Righters expect obedience and submission to their laws. But Lefties expect people to believe their fucking dogmas like if they were the sacred true revealed and total allegiance to them.

A plausible combination of both visions could the islamic states, like Iran.

    Theocracy is basically totalitarian authority.
