Mothers have been left in hysterics after a puzzling parenting routine from the 1950s went viral online.

The 'Baby's Day' list, which was shared by popular Australian parenting page Mum's Grapevine, included a detailed itinerary of a parenting schedule from 6am till 11pm.

As parents went wild over how different parenting was in the 1950s, thousands liked the post.

The schedule included tasks such as 'put the baby outdoors to sleep' and 'give drink of orange juice'.

Sharing a snap of the page, which appeared to be from an old parenting book, Mum's Grapevine posted: 'Apparently this is how it was done 70 years ago. Two baths a day, orange juice, outside for naps.'

The gruelling schedule started at a prompt 6am, with a 'feed, change, hold out,' before 'leaving in cot to sleep again.'

The puzzling list went on to say babies should be allowed 'to kick on bed without clothes' and 'in summer giving daily sunbath' at 9am.

Parents were instructed to 'hold out' babies again at 10am, before putting babies outdoors to sleep.

Meanwhile in winter, the daily sun bath comes at 1pm.

At 2pm, baby should enjoy an 'outing' before 'mothering', while they should be given orange juice at 4pm.

The final instruction came at 10pm, when baby should be fed ‘in a darkened room’, changed, and sent back to bed, where they should sleep until 6am to start the routine again.

Social media users were baffled by the list, with many saying it had left them in hysterics.
