What happened to the old days, when everyone was courageous in his own right, was independent, could feed his own confidence and was ready to face the world with its challenges with an open vision ?

Fast track to today, when people hide behind the veil of online accounts, seek validation from strangers (mostly women) about themselves and either find comfort or depression in their views, the latter being more prominent. To comparing each other with their likes and their followers and the unliking even their close ones, it's more like a race with no finish line in sight and one thing is sure, it's not of any use to anyone. Just being the puppets in the hands of every single person who can use the internet, it's a terrible phase for mankind. To making streaks on Snapchat to rating each other on the Instagram statuses, from new posts every minute to changing the display picture every few hours, the generation has become as vain as ever. Putting filters everyday, to losing their routine work in the fire of social media, postponing assignments and decreasing the overall efficiency that mankind was capable of a decade ago. We are slaves of our phones, our minds shelved in the mediocrity to achieve the adulations of the online'community'. Trying to post the funniest tweets, and igniting debates over trivial matters- this is what everyone tries to achieve to have their 2 seconds of fame. I mean, we hear stories of irresponsible people falling into rivers taking selfies, wasting precious moments that could be lived just to capture the photos, and then everyone thinks that we ought to leave our phones and have a peaceful session with ourselves. But these promises are short lived than even the new year resolutions and the same cycle continues. All this has made our generation weak, under confident and too much dependent on other's opinions. It has led to depression and even suicides as if the work load of the hectic life wasn't enough. Everyone must try and inculcate in ourselves the peace, serenity and confidence that people had in them many generations before.

I might be called straight forward old school, trying to ignore the benefits of technology and making us go behind in progress, but my point here is to show everyone a mirror, how we are neglecting our life and would have nothing to show for it as we near our deathbed. I just hope that even one reader understands this and tries to live a better life, not for the world, not for the petty likes and follows, but for himself, and discover himself and his/her individuality from among the hordes of users struggling to capture a few likes.
