Why do you call it "Neo-Shtokavian" instead of just general "Shtokavian"? Is there a significant difference between "Neo-Shtokavian" and the Shtokavian spoken in the Middle Ages?

There is a difference in accents in words between new shtokavian and old shtokavian dialects.

No. The term "New shtokavian" means new type of accent of word. Its not јунâк anymore but ј`унāк (hero).

On west and north Serbs speak new shtokavian (east Herzegovina-Krajina, west Serbia, Vojvodina, large parts of Šumadija), in east and south Serbs speak old shtokavian dialects (Kosovo-Resava dialect, Prizren-Timok dialect, Zeta dialect).

But I'm just wondering why linguists decided to call north/west Shtokavian dialects as "New Shtokavian"? How did they come up with that name?

In my opinion the reason is that is new way of accent of words (this change occured in 15th century btw). I dont think the reason is Serb migration to north or west.

No, but whole todays Albania used to be in Serbian empire in 14th centure, during rule of tsar Dušan.
