Sod that.... building skyscrapers where earthquakes are prone. (The tall buildings can be seen swaying in these scary video clips.)

I also think skyscrapers are a fire hazard (look at the Twin Towers videos - and also Grenfell Tower.) People have little chance of escaping from the top floors.

I'd hate to live in or work inside a high rise building as I'm afraid of heights.

I went on the London Eye wheel twice (once during the day and another time during the evening - and both times I felt slightly giddy and nauseous looking down when the pods reached the top.)

I guess the only advantages of living or working inside a high rise building are the panaromic views, and in the event of a flood - the higher floors are unlikely to suffer damage from flooding.

    True
Only Paris, Madrid, London, Frankfurt and Moscow and other few cities have some tall buildings.

The single european city that hast a big amount of skyscrapers on its historical centre, London, has destroyed almost completely its victorian centre and surroundings towns, to become a city without any identificative-historical monument or street aspect (and even people), even Saint Paul cathedral is sourrounded by these skyscrapers, to become a city without genuine soul, a kind of Dubai or a random north american city.

But as they do not consider themselves european this could be consideared a normal and logical achievement (in a near future it could become a mosque)

In Mekkah the historical center has been almost completely destroyed to make place for modern buildings, partially to build up the enormously disgusting and ugly Abraj Al Bait tower.

That there are not skyscrapers in Europe? And what is this?...

    Madrid, Spain:

By the way, I have nothing against skyscrapers. I find them cool, as long as they are built far away from the historical center of those cities with strong cultural/historical identity. Fortunately, in the case of Madrid, unlike in London, these skyscrapers are in the very north of the city, far away from the historical center of Madrid.

Cities like Madrid, Boston (Massachusetts) or Santiago de Chile, among many others, are good examples of this.

I think skycrapers look cool/modern/vibrant, but at the same time soulless, from the top many cities filled with them lose the distinctive aesthetics from the country's culture.

There's competitive movement amongst the UK cities on being green and pollution free. Increasingly pedestrianised and pushing cars out of the city centres.

I guess building tall could be in some of the plans but as the video says we are getting better at preservation of older buildings.
