I've noticed that baltic peoples are very pro-german.

Because they are similar in many ways.

Indeed, Germans people gave Baltic people a chance to become autonomy free from Soviets during WWII.

But after WWI, Baltic Germans were against the self-determination of Estonians and Latvians:



If it was German decision, then Estonia and Latvia would not become independent ethno-states.

Instead they would be some oligarchies ruled by German minority, with no equal rights for Balts.

I think this thing is more older, they were always opressed by slavs but germans including Teutonic knights protected them against russians and poles. The situation is same in Hungary, because the multiethnic great Hungary was the primary target of pan-slavists that's why they choosed the german orientation.

A case of Stockholm Syndrome probably. German nobility oppressed them for centuries.

But Russian Communists also oppressed them. Poor Balts, everyone oppresses them.

There is nothing wrong with Poles, except they are a different language and culture than Lithuania, and because they border each other, tensions are only natural. The baltic languages and customs are quite different than the Slavs, even if there is some overlap. Lithuanians have a different look as well. It's like pushing a Virginian against someone from New England. Or someone from Texas against a Californian.

I agree they probably wouldn't be independent states but they could be autonomies. Also Latvians and Estonians since end of Medieval times have been quite well treated. Cities of Riga and Tallinn came important rich cities thanks to being part of Hanza. Even as independent states they had good relations with them.

In the reality the baltic and slavic languages have common roots, they originated from the balto-slavic group. Baltic peoples, belorussians, north east poles and north west russians looks very similar.
