I don't think people can be unnaturally forced to be in a relationship - or forced to feel love for each other if they don't get along. It's actually more harmful for a child to be around parents who are hostile and always arguing or fighting with each other.

The least he could do is show some love and care for his son though by regularly visiting and spending time with him, and paying child maintenance support.

The mother may find a kind and caring person in the future who may become a loving step-father.

Life is short and time flies by fast - and before he knows it he'll be an old and lonely man one day .... and his son and grandchildren won't care about him if he never cared about spending precious time with his son.... or was never there for his birthdays, never pays any child maintenance, etc. Karma.

In an idealistic world that would be great - but in reality when people fall out of love, the worst case scenario is if they start fighting or yelling abuse at each other - or if they take their frustrations out on the child... or become resentful towards the child ... or if the parents start blaming the child for their misery in living together - which causes a frightening and unhealthy environment for children to grow-up in if their parents are often shouting or fighting with each other.

If they can't resolve their differences, then it's probably best that they both find happier and healthier relationships with someone else who can become step-parents, and both remain amicable around the child, and explain to their child once he's old enough to understand that although his parents no longer get along - that they both love him. The least he can do is visit his son regularly and financially help to support his child.

Even if she did... he still has a responsibility to care for his child and pay child maintenance support by law. He's made it clear in several threads he's made that he doesn't love her and he doesn't want a child to 'ruin his social life and parties'. I think that's selfish. He should've used a condom if he didn't want to sacrifice his parties.

He can still have a social life and go out from time to time with his friends to restaurants, etc, - as well as spending time with his child... he just has to balance it out. Parents who have a social life tend to feel less stressed and more reinvigorated around their children, so having trustworthy childminders (such as grandparents) and taking some time once or twice a week to relax and unwind in a spa - or having a romantic evening meal with their partner and listening to music together is therapeutic.

He can also have a lot of fun and happy times and very special moments around his son too - far happier and more precious and meaningful than any party full of drunkards.

Well he's an adult now and that's his son, so he's old enough to make a child - and he's old enough to work and pay child support contributions for his child.

This isn't about his ex - but about his duty to support his child.

Women may come and go in his life - and he may fall out of love in relationships - but his child is his blood.
