Default Elysium, futuristic city in Extremadura

Spain is putting forward a very strong contender to join Europe’s best theme parks as it prepares to build a “Disney-level major theme park”.

It’s all part of a new smart city being built in Castilblanco, Extremadura.

The project, Elysium City , will not only boast a huge theme park, but it will also have a separate water park and heaps more attractions including an 18-hole golf course and four hotels with casinos.

Construction is expected to start soon, with an opening date anticipated for 2023 for the first phase of the smart city which will include the hotels and attractions.

Other highlights will include a stadium that can hold up to 40,000 people, a marina, heaps of shops, residential housing, and even its own high speed train station.

The second phase, due for opening in 2028, is expected to see more luxury hotels and a Formula One track added into the mix.

It’s estimated that over four million visitors will head to the city when it first opens in 2023, half of which are expected to head to the epic theme park.

Elysium will be a ‘smart city’ with a focus on sustainability and efficiency, and there are some cool features in store for holidaymakers.

For example, there’ll be a solar powered smart street infrastructure, smart lights, furniture and bus shelters, and green coffee carts.

There will even be kiosks throughout the site which provide real-time parking availability, traffic updates, public transport schedules, weather forecasts and much more.

US based company Cora Alpha is behind the design of the exciting new venture.

John Cora, founder and chairman of Cora Alpha told Travel + Leisure : “It’s basically a city that we’re creating that will be a smart city from ground up, but the core will be the entrainment pieces: a Disney-level major theme park and an adventure water park that’s unlike typical water parks. The goal is to have it be a place where you want to work, live and play.”

But Spain already has the largest or among the top3 largest theme parks of Europe, Portaventura is awesome and considered the best theme park of Europe.

Also why Extremadura? It would be way better in Madrid, Catalunya, Andalusia, Valencia, Leon, Galiza, Asturias, Navarra that have more population and natural beauty.

I love rollercoaster rides but hate theme parks. I don't like all the fat people, fast food, queues and stupid themes(pirates etc) everywhere. I would like to set up a themepark that kills the people it would be a great eugenic programme. I can just imagine all the dumb fat retards waiting in line to get on a rollercoaster that doesn't connect back to the beggining the carts just fly off the edge into the sky.

Makes sense, Extremadura is more empty and the land probably cheaper. Those images are beautiful indeed and its really a big volume of water.
