From which regions of Germany do German americans have their ancestry from?

I wouldn't be surprised if my Mecklenburger ancestors came from the Netherlands or Schleswig-Holstein during the Ostsiedlung.

Very interesting thread. I have German ancestry from all over - Württemberg, Upper Franconia, Schleswig-Holstein, Vorpommern, Lower Saxony (via Prussian Poland), and one ancestor whose origins I can't place. There's also older German ancestry on my dad's side, which is probably West German of some sort.

You're in Cincinnati? Big German community there, as I'm sure you know. Doris Day was from there.
