    Oh. Never mind, then.

I was thinking of the beautiful Catholic churches around the world, and the Eastern/Southern European Immigrant communities in the US around in the 19th century, when donor contributions enhanced the glorification of the Church, as opposed to Protestant chapels in which donor contributions go to the mortgage and car payments of the preachers.

There is no doubt that Catholic churches have all others beat in terms of ornamentation and aesthetic beauty, but I've always thought their grandeur was hypocritical considering Jesus' statement, 'It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.' The Catholic Church can afford to have churches like that due to millenia of simony, indulgences, wars, and colonialism. To attribute it to the Church's inherent holiness is just silly.

Being essentially an atheist, I look at it more for its civilizational value.

Yeah, you should understand that for Christians, it's not about culture or civilization, but much more than that... it's about life itself and everything encompassing it.

8 dollars out of 10 goes to the Roman Clergy and to cover up their pedophile ring

The Catholic Church has been exposed for it's financial usury of it's people.
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

Even if this were hard--that is how it is ! Assuredly, however, by far the harder fate is that which strikes the man who thinks he can overcome Nature, but in the last analysis only mocks her. Distress, misfortune, and diseases are her answer.

A church that doesn't have symbols or statues is a much holier place, God hates idolatry.

Not going to look on an international level but less than half of those living in the Bisphorics of Breda, Den Bosch or Roermond are still actively Catholic (mind you: that's Brabant - that's Limburg: Catholic heartland). Utrecht, the traditional seat of Catholicism in the Netherlands, now sees most catholic possessions sold off because few still attend. As for much of the North: they can just as well close up shop.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

If they believe in the Dogma and the Doctrine they should start their own church, would much rather see a Dutch people XD, at least the church wouldn't be stealing money and it's finances would be in order.
