I'm not sure but galicians are famous to be like the equivalent of the north italians and basques are popular to be different too.

it'd be a stretch to use "light pigmented" with "Iberian" or any other Mediterranean region people. fair-skinned blue-eyed blonds are totally accidental in the South. even the Balkans, who has some Slavic input, finds blonds to be quite accidental, less so than in the Mediterranean, but still uncommon.

In eye color Portuguese are even darker than Andalusians as 77.74% of Portuguese have pure brown eyes against 60% of Andulusians.
I think your comparison is incorrect. I doubt there is such difference between Portuguese and Andalusians. Do you have any source for Andalusia? Is it from Hoyos Sainz?

Also I think the 78% figure for darks eyes in Portugal includes hazel.

His last comment on TA was made just a day after this tweet. Maybe he got confronted by someone on social media or irl and decide to quit for his own safety.

No, not from Hoyos Sainz, but Dr. Frederick S. Hulse. Coon cited him as „Unpublished thesis by Dr. Frederick S. Hulse, "The Comparative Physical Anthropology of Andalusians and Cubans," 1934, Cambridge.“

Sixty per cent of Andalusians have pure brown eyes, of which the majority are dark brown, although light brown and mixed-brown irises occur. Mixed-light eyes comprise 30 per cent of the series, with a prev-alence of greenish-brown shades, while 10 per cent of the whole sample possesses bluish-gray eyes, on the gray rather than blue side. A ratio of 40 per cent of light or incipiently light eyes is higher than one expects to find among racially pure Mediterraneans, and indicates the infusion of Nordic blood, from both North European and Berber sources. Probably if the rest of Spain were studied for eye color in the same way, higher ratios of eye blondism would appear elsewhere, since most of the green-brown eyes in this sample are predominantly dark.
    -Carleton S. Coon

Dark eyes, corresponding to the terms P4-P8, in which the stroma of the iris appears evenly employing more or less dark brownish pigment, to which may be superimposed a lighter, brownish pigment with varying distribution. They comprise the so-called black and brown eyes of different shades and aspects.
    -Eusebio Tamagnini

It looks like Portugal is indeed darker-eyed. Tamagnini Limited Dark to pure brown.
