Tamagnini used a sample size of 11,601 from all over Portugal, while Hulse used a much smaller sample of 420 adult Andalusian men who may have all come from the same locale. That could explain the inconsistency with what one would except between the two groups.

Non withstanding that, Tamagnini did indeed find 77.74% pure brown eyes in Portugal.

In my experience with Portuguese people, they are pale skinned and light featured. Their features are soft and sharp. The ones I personaly knew showed no difference with Northern Italians. Like this one:
