Only 27 women convicted for crimes to imprisonment in jail

In the whole Armenia there are only 27 women convicted for crimes to imprisonment in jail and there is only one jail in Armenia where they are held. And 10 women out of these 27 are foreigners.

A well-known traveler, blogger and journalist Alexander Lapshin visited that jail and told about his impressions of what he saw.

...Но то, что я увидел внутри тюрьмы, заставило сильно удивиться. Ребята, это именно санаторий. Местами обветшалый, кое-где нуждающийся в ремонте. Но на тюрьму все это абсолютно не похоже. Это жилой барак, в котором содержатся осужденные женщины, но никаких решеток нет. Наоборот, современные пластиковые окна. Женщины же свободно прогуливаются по территории тюрьмы, сидят на скамеечках, играют в шахматы, смотрят телевизор в комнате отдыха.

Я кстати сразу хочу предупредить, что фотографий осужденных не будет. Они не хотели становиться "знаменитыми", поскольку статус женщины в армянском обществе никак не стыкуется с пребыванием в тюрьме. Это большой позор и стыд для близких и друзей. Ну и второй момент - женщины даже за решеткой остаются женщинами и считают, что в этой обстановке выглядят недостаточно привлекательно. Поэтому осужденные свободно гуляют вокруг и даже стоят рядом со мной. Просто не в кадре.

Осужденные имеют право звонить домой неограниченное количество раз. Никаких там "раз в неделю 15 минут", как в других республиках бывшего СССР. Здесь звони хоть с подъема до отбоя, если есть деньги на телефонной карточке.

... But what I saw inside the prison made me very surprised. Guys, this is a sanatorium. Partly dilapidated, in some places in need of repair. But all this is completely different from prison. This is a residential hut containing convicted women, but there are no bars. On the contrary, modern plastic windows. Women walk freely around the prison, sit on benches, play chess, watch TV in the rest room.

By the way, I immediately want to warn that there will be no photos of convicts. They did not want to become “famous,” since the status of women in Armenian society does not fit with their stay in prison. This is a great shame and shame for relatives and friends. Well, the second point - women even remain behind bars as women and believe that in this environment they do not look attractive enough. Therefore, convicts freely walk around and even stand next to me. Just not in the frame.

Convicts have the right to call home an unlimited number of times. None there "once a week 15 minutes", as in other republics of the former USSR. Here, call at least from the rise to the end, if there is money on the phone card.

Чуть не забыл, в одном из корпусов функционирует швейный цех. Правда, работают в нем всего две девушки. Тема не очень актуальна. Большинство предпочитают компьютеры и парикмахерское дело

Решетки внутри тюрьмы имеются только в одном корпусе. Строгого режима. Да и это скорее одно название, чем реально что-то серьезное. Ну 27 человек всего! Периодически какая-нибудь осужденная что-то нарушает. Делает это раз, два. На третий раз терпение администрации может лопнуть и даму в воспитательных целях отправляют в карцер на несколько часов, или даже дней. Отдохнуть и подумать.

Камера карцера уже привычная нам, никаких условий санатория как вы видели выше. Должен сказать, что в армянском карцере условия лучше, чем в белорусской обычной тюрьме. Меня в 2017 году белорусы держали в абсолютно скотских условиях на Володарке (СИЗО-1 г.Минска), где в такой комнате было 8 человек, а туалет не имел двери и представлял собой дырку в бетонном полу, и это между прочим, называлось vip камерой. Грязь, издевательства и отсутствие минимальной гигиены были такими, что вспоминался фашистский Освенцим... Так вот, здесь так даже карцер не выглядит, и человека здесь держат часы, или максимум несколько дней. В Белоруссии же подозреваемые и осужденные содержатся годами в таких условиях, что даже о таком карцере они могут только мечтать.

The punishment cell is already familiar to us, no sanatorium conditions as you saw above. I must say that the conditions in the Armenian punishment cell are better than in the Belarusian ordinary prison. In 2017, Belarusians kept me in absolutely bestial conditions on Volodarka (SIZO-1 in Minsk), where there were 8 people in such a room, and the toilet had no door and was a hole in the concrete floor, and this, by the way, was called a vip camera . The dirt, bullying and lack of minimal hygiene were such that the fascist Auschwitz was recalled ... So, here even a punishment cell does not look like that, and a person is kept here for hours, or a maximum of several days. In Belarus, suspects and convicts have been kept for years in such conditions that they can only dream of such a punishment cell.
