As the title suggests I was wondering which population is genetically speaking more Northern the English or the Dutch?

The Dutch. English people are between Central and South Dutch in terms of 'Northernness'. North Dutch largely overlap with Scandinavians.

Very interesting. Medieval German is different from the modern German, according to this, was it more Nordic back then? And Belgium leans towards Visigothic and Eastern French.

Yes, they are Germans from the Migration period. Though this PCA is mainly designed to separate the British Isles from Scandinavians, Dutch and North Germans who cluster together heavily, so the relative positions of other populations are not so accurate.

Overall? It's the English obviously! Though some Dutch populations (e.g. the Frisians) plot slightly more north, while other Dutch (e.g. Zeelanders, Limburgers, Flemish) are genetically more southerly. The English are for sure a Northern European population.
