Answering the thread: I feel culturally closer to Christian Levantines and I dislike Muslims in general but it's ridiculous to deny that Europe (not only Southern Europe) shared much more features and culture across history with Arabs and Middle Eastern populations than with fucking Chinese.

Yes, but our interactions with them were mostly negative. Of course we share more with them than with the Chinese in this nuts and bolts, most general sense, but taken Southern Europe as a whole, MENAs are basically our major historical enemies. This ‘feeling closer’ thing can be interpreted in a multiple ways, but this aspect should be considered. I certainly prefer Chinese people over that bunch which got reconquisted by my ancestors.

There's far more Chinese where I live than there are Arabs, so I can sort of understand them and their culture more by exposure.

Just stop embarassing yourself these reconquisted people were genetically more iberian than you they were just muslims. And MENA weren't "historical ennemies" Mena is a pure artifcial term that has no sense especially when it comes to ancient times.

It would be more accurate to say Muslims are historical enemies, but MENA essentially introduced civilization into Europe. A Greek or Roman would sooner see a German or Celt barbarian as a "historical enemy" of their civilization than a Phoenician, Egyptian or Mesopotamian. The exception was the Persians who really were natural enemies to Greece and Rome.
