I mean romantic in the colloquial sense, as relating to romantic love. Though there may be a connection between romantic cultures and Romanticism as a literary and artistic movement.
Google “most romantic countries” and you’ll invariably be presented with countries where the people are extroverted, passionate, and sensual. Spain, Italy, Brazil, etc.
But it seems like there’s another form of romanticism that’s more reserved. These people long for love but don’t express it in such an obvious way, at least not in their everyday interactions. This romanticism often manifests itself as wistfulness, sentimentality, and nostalgia. When it does get expressed, it’s in the form of poetry or music.
Countries I can think of that are romantic in this way include Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, and possibly Germany. Am I wrong about those? Are there any others?
