    Château de Coucy, Aisne, Picardy.

He was destroyed in 1917 by the germans that were forced to retreat to this town and they wanted to make some cultural destruction. The donjon of the Chateau of Coucy was the largest in Europe, measuring 35 meters wide and 55 meters tall. The smaller towers surrounding the court were as big as the donjons being built at that time by the French monarchy. (wikipedia)

    Before the destruction :

    (nord-ovest donjon)

    After:

    Such a shame.

impressive structure. a shame indeed it had to be destroyed (in a retreat! ) so innecesarely. there was really no reason.

It was certainly breath-taking to see this castle.
