It is Southern European country along with Italy, Spain, Portugal and parts of France, the Western SE if you want.
For me at least.
I dont use the cold war devision of Europe at all, for me it makes no sense to group eg Portugal and Norway together with label Western Europe - wtf, these countries are very distanced in everything.

Well a little yes and no.
For example the MTV and McDonald culture was largely alien to Greece until 20 years ago - Greece then was heavily influenced by the church.
I don't think people get it, ingrained centuries old habits don't die.

Greece doesn't belongs to Western Europe. But neither to Eastern Europe or Middle East.
Greece is culturally quite unique. The most accurate i could say, is that it belongs to Southern Europe.

Culturally speaking, Northern and Central Greece is Balkans, Southern Greece and Greek islands are Southern Europe.
