Is your Youtube following based on looks?

I have a vlog channel on youtube for over 12 years and I only have 250 subs. On my music channel I have only 785 subs, and I've had that for 12 years as well . I assume my low following is based on looks. People only sub to people they find physically appealing. If I were a beautiful woman, I could have a crap singing voice and probably over a million subscribers. Sad.

Eh, c’mon brotha, don’t start spiraling. What you do is a bit on the niche side, that’s probably a part of it.

Your content (music) and engagement with your subscribers is most important. I'm subscribed to parenting YouTubers and what keeps me watching is relatable content, I couldn't care less what they look like.

Don't give up on what you do, just work on it x

It’s also worth noting people’s attention spans suck now, and any content that’s at all contemplative and not featuring a fast talking moron is not going to jive.

People seem to regard YouTube as a video version of instagram nowadays. Watch rich hot cool people live awesome lives and feel jealous. I don’t get the appeal of that sort of content. I miss the days when youtube was a site for fellow losers.

Looks matter but content and a degree of luck are the bases of a successful channel

My channels are very raw and authentic. I do understand that I could use a better camera/production value. I could get a better camera later. I only have a few decent music videos. The rest are Okay... But probably it's because I don't upload consistently and most people prefer that, at least one upload a week. I am also sporadic at doing livestreams.
