Now I need to find a German speaking to a Chinese person. Never crossed my mind.

But accents and nasal voices are two different things. A person's voice is not the same as their accent. They are two different mediums. Someone with a different accent doesn't necessarily have a nasal voice. That is a misconception. The General American accent is pretty close to many counties in England, such as Suffolk , Devon, and Somerset. The Americans do speak higher pitched than the British, but that doesn't equal nasality. It's more way the voice rise and falls. The Irish speak more highly pitched as well. Some Irish have nasal voices, others do not. John Lennon and Princess Anne talks through her nose. Not all English do. It's all upon the individual.

I think you are not used to listening to German. I speak German and it sounds as European as Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.

Germans have almost Oriental sounding accents because... for centuries their Eastern neighbours were Slavs.
