I dunno. I tried making morphs of players in the UEFA Women's U19 Championship 2019 and Russian women's hockey league, where I selected the images of players who I estimated to have either the thickest or the thinnest lips. I think the morphs with thin lips look more Southern European.

Out of all players in the Russian WHL whose headshot photos I downloaded, the girl below has possibly the thickest lips. Whites who have thick lips like her often also have a broad, short, and concave nose. The thickness of the lips, the width of the nose, and the z-axis depth of the nose are all parameters of overall facial soft tissue thickness. She also has skin that looks firm or rubbery, which is common among whites who have thick lips or an SSA-like shape of the nose.

Many of the other best-looking players in the Russian WHL also have thick lips:

But then many of the most hideous players have no lips:

You described me. Despite being 100% white, I have some SSA-like facial features and I hate it.

What made you associate the thin-lipped ones with Southern Europe? I always thought of the average Southern Euro country as having people with full lips. Especially Greece.

Thick lips are an archaic feature, and people who have thick lips also tend to look archaic in other ways, but meds are less archaic than Northern Europeans.

The thickness of the lips depends on facial soft tissue thickness, which depends on the level of growth factors. Acromegaly also causes the lips to get thicker:

Soft tissue thickness and skeletal robusticity both largely depend on the level of growth factors. Therefore people with lower skeletal robusticity also tend to have lower soft tissue thickness, and vice versa.

The morphs below consist of the photos of the non-Caucasoid contestants in Miss University Africa 2019 and 2018. As in the case of the morphs of whites, I think the morph with thin lips looks more Southern European, because it has a narrower head and a longer and narrower nose.

I tried doing morphs of the white players of Northern and Southern European teams in the most recent men's and women's FIFA world cups. Among females, the northern morph has maybe a bit thicker lips, but among males, there's not much difference.

Nope! it's just a climate adaptation
