Some people are really jealous of Italians, but it is less common in "real life". Most of these "muh, you're jealous of my ethnicity" are insecure people that use their ethnicity/race/nationality as a way of coping in order to feel better about themselves.
Italian history is rich and amazing, this country gave the world many brilliant minds, but these people, just like anywhere else in the world, were always a small minority, the average Italiano is just a common person and has no relation whatsoever with these achievements.

Bullshit. Romans were South Italians (even more southern-shifted than them actually) and much of Italian civilization developed in Southern Italy.

Southern Italians have nothing to be ashamed of. They may be inferior to Northern Italy economically now but it was not always like that.

I can totally confirm that (as a 1/2 south italian). Maybe the Roman elite was a mix between southerners and central italians but still southerners should not be ashamed.
