In the past, the relationships between the two were bad. Now, both of them don't really care, and really the conflict between Christians is mostly between Catholics and Protestants. Greeting from soon-to-be Orthodox Christian.

The religious authority for orthodoxy is not a patriarch or the bishop of Rome as in Catholicism, nor the Bible as in Protestantism, but the scriptures as interpreted by the seven ecumenical councils of the Mother Church of Imperial Rome

The canons of the seven ecumenical councils around its literature IS Orthodoxy. Funnily enough Catholics also endorse the seven ecumenical councils. Otherwise looney fringes appear and Christianity has many looney fringes interpreting the book of Christ as they wish and not as it is. Can not say the same for Catholics as its an Orthodox religion in its pure form but practice their faith in a Catholic church. Whereas Orthodox traditions has not altered since its inception and fighting to keep it pure.

Orthodox is not really nationalistic - Mother church gave literature to the people that wanted to be close to Jesus Christ to practice in their own language. If it was nationalistic then Greek flags would be flying everywhere but it goes way beyond politics.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Eph. 6:12

I agree with the first part.
In regards to Orthodox churches not being nationalistic - you're right when you say that the Greek Church is not nationalistic, but this is because Greek clerics spread the faith.

For everyone else Orthodox faith is intertwined with ethnicity, switching faith meant joining a different ethnic group and vice-versa. Catholics would have been just as nationalistic had they been autocephalous.

To me this seems more like a political/cultural division between west and east/southeast, like a inner european cultural division. I dont think there is much theological difference, a few only. I feel pretty comfortable in a Catholic church and often received the communion in a Catholic church. Now Ottar explained that this is possible for a orthodox to receive communion in a Catholic church. I didnt knew this that well and thought "man is that Vatican 2 illuminati or why I received the communion if Im not Catholic".

I am closing the thread because people aren't talking about the religious aspects, thanks for the replies; but please keep it civil next time, I will also keep my questions more specific and directed next time; I shouldn't have been so vague.

This is a strength of Balkan/Orthodox people rather than a weakness. IMO.
