The Russian Orthodox Church today announced the election of its new Patriarch, Metropolitan Kirill, to replace Patriarch Alexy II who passed away in December. Kirill is a known KGB/FSB agent code named "Mikhailov". Patriarch Alexy likewise was a long-time agent of Russia's intelligence services code named "Drozdov" (blackbird):

KGB material in the Estonian archives leaves no doubt about the patriarch’s connections with the KGB. It even gives a specific date for his recruitment: February 28, 1958. He received the code name "Drozdov." The Estonian document, signed by a Colonel I. P. Karpov, head of the KGB in the republic, states: "During the period of collaboration with the organs of the KGB ‘Drozdov’ positively recommended himself. During secret rendezvous he was punctilious, energetic and convivial. He is well-orientated in theoretical questions of theology and the international situation. Latin was the language not ethnicity. Show me any source where Romans identified as ethnic "Latin". If they called themselves Latins, then Romanians would be called "Latinians" today.

interesting that Orthodox think Catholics are more political because for Catholics we view the orhtodox church and patriarchs as being heavily nationalistic and heavily influenced by political leaders such as is the case with Putin in Russia. From what ive seen with the Orthodox ive met, is that Ive never met one Orthodox who is actually believing instead of just cultural where as I know many Catholics who are actually believing and practiving (I know there are faithful orthodox, ive just never met them), but from the Catholic side we view Orthodox as basically the same as us and we like them, but I know many Orthodox dont feel the same way.

Much of today's Western Ukraine - known historically as Red Ruthenia (now Lviv Oblast, Ternopil Oblast and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast) - was part of Poland already since 1340, long before the PLC existed. It was incorporated into the Kingdom Poland by king Casimir III, the last of the Piast dynasty. The Piast dynasty had ruled Red Ruthenia already since 1323 (Prince Boleslaw-Jerzy II). Podolia was also annexed by Poland before the emergence of the PLC.

Forgot about that, true it was also used as an ethnicity as well.

But the definition of Latin changed. Originally, it referred to the Latin tribe that founded Rome. But as that Latin tribe grew in power and Latinized other people, it began to refer to Romance people (i.e. Romanized/Latinized people) in general.

In the Massacre of the Latins when Greeks killed some Romance people from Italy in response to Venetian & Sicilian aggression; most of the Latin people that died were from Genoa, Pisa, Venice, etc. rather than from Latium (Lazio). It was just used for Romance people in general and lost its original tribal meaning.
