Even if they were being used they still benefited from the partnership. We saved them from being exterminated by isis and the other Arabs, and they got to take more land for themselves. It takes some serious partisan mental gymnastics to explain why it's our obligation to keep troops there to protect them indefinitely from our own allies though.

Edrogan has stated it's a joint operation with the Syrian Army.

No it's not. When they talk about Syrian National Army, they mean Free Syrian Army.

Hold on a minute. The USA and allies aligned with "Stalin" to defeat Nazi Germany. The Kurd Turk Iraq etc stuff goes back centuries.
    Just stay out of it.

I'm talking about post-WW2 but both the US and Soviets used each other to defeat the nazis. What other choice did they have. The Free Syrian Army are also Turkey/Nato-backed. Like a Turk mentioned already, Kurds have 40% of the land and 80% of the oil so there's more to it than just making some 'safe zone' for returning migrants.

It never fails to amaze me how the west can't seem to understand these nuanced dynamics. They don't seem to realize that they are supporting radical Marxists also.

Honestly what happens in east Syria at this point is inconsequential barring the possibility of an ISIS return. The main conflict in this war was between rebels and the Assad regime. Turkey vs. Kurds is a sideshow.
