Most Armenian families have been evacuated from the Syrian city of Tel Abyad. 13 Armenian families out of 16 have already moved to Al-Hasakah Governorate and Aleppo, said Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, the head of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport. He said no casualties were reported.

According to some reports, Armenian families in Ras al-Ayn have also been relocated. About 3,000 Armenians in Qamishli are still in the city. The local authorities see no need in relocating the population at this point.

The Armenian Embassy in Syria and the Consulate General in Aleppo keep in touch with the communities in north-eastern Syria.

High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs Zareh Sinanyan wrote about security of Armenian community in Syria. He particularly said.

“The military actions undertaken by Turkey since October 9 on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic are not only illegal and condemnable as a gross violation of international law, but also directly affect the security of the Armenian communities in a number of these areas. As a result of bombings and ground operations, the survival of the Armenian communities in northeastern Syrian city Hasakah is endangered. The Government of the Republic of Armenia is committed to ensuring the safety of Armenians and Armenian communities in Syria. Armenia and the entire Armenian people stand with their compatriots and will do their utmost to ensure their safety.”
