Are Romanians uncomfortable being labeled as Balkan ?

in real life no. people consider themselves balkaners and no one consider balkan a derogatory term..
also balkan it doesn't really have a geographic meaning

in the south yes, in the north not that much. though there are many parallels between Balkans and ex-Soviet space, and at least some regions in Romania fall in between, the south is just so similar to Bulgaria so it can embrace Balkan identity 100%.

traditionally Moldova region is East Euro, Bucovina and Maramureș are Central Euro. the rest looks/feels pretty Balkan.

Bucharest, where all media is, is definitely strongly identifying as Balkan, but it's also worlds apart culturally from a random VS, SV or MM village. even to a Delta Danube village (either Lipovan or Xoxol)

No, Balkan is geographic label so I don't mind. Degree of Balkaness depend on region of Romania but not as much in my city near Hungarian border.
