To make some precisions about how english is taught in France :

-A lot of the lessons are focused on the grammar in secondary school (less in high-school)

-Progressist propaganda about not only feminism but also anti-racism, multiculturalism, pro-LGBT... In my last year of high-school I got the Suffragettes and feminist for almost 2 months, also the Harlem Renaissance (with a teacher that made his anti-Trump propaganda and that was fond of afro-american culture like Toni Morrison), the year before 6 months on the same subject (Suffragettes) and to various progressist stuff.

-Documents that are studied are boring and not interesting at all (when they aren't ideological biased)

-You study barely some pieces of english litterature (and most of the times books that are accessible to teens)

-There is a very minority of that participate actively (I was one of them), the rest of the class talk, make fun by thowing paper this kind of things

These are some anecdotes but actually it's the WHOLE syllabus and the way teachers are told to teach that would have to be revised.

French education is a disaster from primary school to high school.

I can talk about pages about that as I grew up in this education system.

What is so particularly bad about French education?
