Cordedwhelp’s Ashkenazi Ancestry May Come from Danish Jews

My mother’s maiden name is Not increadibly rare in Scandinavia, but not one of the most common names and is one some danish Jews have been known to take. I have never known Precisely from which lineage her 5.8% AJ (per 23) originates. Tacking it onto her Belarusian side was always the most tempting, but she consistently behaves on 23 and eurogenes calcs as someone over half Eastern European.

Just today I have noticed on her 23 account a new match, bearing the name (although as a 3rd to distant cousin)...I have since sent him a request to connect and a message inquiring if his surname came out of Copenhagen. Interestingly, he scores tiny bits of broadly NW euro and some 0.2% Scandinavian. For an otherwise full AJ, these percentages are not the most typical. By the way, he’s a Q1b subclade.

Any input? Advice of where I should look next to confirm or deny?

Isn’t it usually more tiny bits in French +German though? I don’t know, maybe you’ve seen more Jewish 23andmr results than I have

Maybe I’m wrong, but this theory works out well, in that it explains how my mom is 1/16 AJ whilst still maintaining over 50% Eastern European ancestry. It probably isn’t any more likely from her southern German side, that sides pretty well accounted for.

I have not confirmed this guys paternal roots are from Denmark, but I think I may be right here, or pretty likely so. My mother’s maiden name is not “generically” Ashkenazi, and is a name I think would only get picked up by Jews living amongst Nordic-folk.
