Well, no. There had been Arabs and Jews living in the city from ancient times. However, most of the scientific knowledge that the Arabs and other Muslims got from the Greeks by taking most of the books from the library of Alexandria and transporting them to what is now Baghdad in the house of knowledge. During the Abbasid period, Muslims would bring gifts to the Byzantine emperor in exchange for books from Greece and so on to Iraq and etc. The genetic contribution of Greeks to the Egyptians were very small at best, and most of the Greeks of modern Alexandria came mostly from the Aegean islands in the early modern periods to modernize Egypt under the Malek of Egypt and Sudan which is true for other Europeans like the French, Italian and so on which the backward Ottoman Turks pretty much made Egypt and other Arab countries to be very undeveloped before Muhammed Ali Pasha reign.
