It was a multi ethnic not multi cultural areas made up of Greeks, Franks, Italics, Armenians, Slavs, Goths, Kievan Rus, Persians, Egyptians and likely many other ethnic groups that were part of the empire's civilization and were recognised as such.

Anatolia had population of 12 million in 13th century but had 30 million in 500 AD. Wars with Sassanid Arabs made people go over their side that diminshed numbers. But yeah, early Christians from all over.

We are not talking about territories in todays Europe but strictly Anatolia

Plenty of weak souled people , if for example a community leader says to its people... need to convert or die. They were the caucasus types... the inland mountains were untouched as did coastal areas as these people were skilled traders which converted muslims already knew were piggies to get taxed. Basically it came down to money more than anything else.

That probably took decades though. I mean for them to speak Turkish all of the sudden. Children learn to speak from their mothers. It must've been brutal like in South America regarding Spanish.

Thats what religion teachings does..it was likely brutal in the beginning but natives were in constant rebellion and ottomans were warring losing men left and right. thats what happened to byzantines as well it was too big and warred on too many different fronts.. but done well to keep an empire going for 1200 years.... Turks are probably our only real proper historical adversary after Persians and give them credit for running an empire for 450 years. Albeit they were hated by Christians natives that were in constant rebellion. But still - credit where credit is due
