How do we even know whether these statistics are true or not ? Here in Europe, they claim that the crime rates have been falling for years but that's only because nobody goes to the police and with their low rate of solving crime (any crime -- apart from tax related issues or minor violations which carry a quick fine) there simply is no reason to go there. Why would Brazil's police be any different ?

The only way of getting rid of crime - is by getting rid of the groups committing those crimes.

It's homicide rate for the whole country (US has very low rate whole country).

In some Brazilian cities the rates are very high (epidemic).

So what did they do ? Move into the favela's and put the whole flipping lot up against whatever brick wall just happens to be closest ? That would actually work eventhough it's not exactly humane.

Bolsonaro's anti-crime proposals have not yet been implemented, this is due to a truce between Brazil's two largest drug factions, and also some actions in the state government sphere, this doesn't come from the federal executive branch.
My state (which is considered the most developed in Brazil) had a 2.4% reduction only, whilst the state that carried this nation-wide reduction percentage (20% reduction) on its back was Ceará, which is currently governed by PT, namely, a left-wing party. Any reduction in homicides is welcome, but I still don't understand the Schizos on this thread glorifying Bolsonaro just by looking at the headlines.

We only need to look at what group let it all get out of control for the last 30 years. That would have been you lefties. It's the same everywhere: wherever the Left governments, shit gets out of control. Be it London, Paris, Amsterdam, Stockholm, California, New York, Miami. There isn't a single place in the world that you lot ever managed to govern right if there weren't natural resources around --- and not even then - hello Venezuela.

The reduction is for homicide and it was in the northeast (lack of policing probably). Favelas is to end drug trafficking (the police kill a lot here) traffic generates a lot of homicide. Robberies some cities the rate is high, difficult to resolve.
