There is no Spanish race, not even a proper Spanish ethnicity. The word itself comes from Roman name Hispania, provincial name given to the region.
The native folk has never been a separate ethnicity from the other Latin folks around, there was always a continuity from Portugal, Spain, Occitania (half south of France) to Italy. The modern Spaniards are Castillans (north of that country) who gave their language to the rest of the country and to south America.
Before the 16th century, the Latin Spaniards have been subject of German Goths and the Arabo-Berber Moors, they were a quite random folk without a nobility or so. They were a typical farming society controlled and contained by religion.

Castilians were a mix from principally Celts -Cantabrians, Barduli, Celtiberians-, Goths and Basques. Since early times they have their own nobility, based in local warrior leaders, like their Celtic ancestors. Basically if you have a horse, a spear and a sword you are considered a noble -knight-.
