The modern Spaniards are Castillans (north of that country) who gave their language to the rest of the country and to south America.

Castilians were a mix from principally Celts -Cantabrians, Barduli, Celtiberians-, Goths and Basques. Since early times they have their own nobility, based in local warrior leaders, like their Celtic ancestors. Basically if you have a horse, a spear and a sword you are considered a noble -knight-.
