On the other hand, I really bored with the ethnic discussion of Pomaks. Why people just don't let them be Pomak instead of Bulgarian or Turkish? That's actually simple.
    Exactly.

As I wrote in my previous post, Bulgarians who live together together with Pomaks are more likely to accept them as their own kin. Seems like Pomaks share the same feeling, and it's quite natural. For Bulgarians living outside the areas with Pomak population (majority), Pomaks and Turks aren't much different...they're both Muslim.

Being Orthodox culturally is a main trait that one must have in order to be Bulgarian. But it is not like this only in Bulgaria. Being Orthodox can automatically make you Serb in Serbia or Greek in Greece.

And I find this totally ridiculous because today the Bulgarian nation as a result is quite divided. We have Macedonians, Gorani, Torbeshi, Pomaks, Slavophone Greeks...all of them lost Bulgarians.

Show which Bulgarians, where, when and how do they not accept the Pomaks as their own?
I cannot provide you interviews of the people that I have spoken to. Sorry.

That’s very interesting. I wonder if Pomaks from Turkey still have this tradition or not. If so, i would like to visit some Pomak weddings to see that.

Culturally Pomaks and Turks are not different. Some of Turks already have Pomak background. Even, I can say that in general Turks are more tolerant more secular than Pomaks in my experience and i definitely imagine what Bulgarians think about Pomaks.

In the past times being Bulgarian was like a meta-ethnicity just like Turks. Their gene pool was diverse and their spreading in geography was larger. If one would say Pomaks were Bulgarians once upon a time I would definitely agree that. But today, when one say "x" is Bulgarian this will mean s/he has Bulgarian culture and at the same time s/he is Orthodox. We neither have Bulgarian culture nor we are Orthodox. For example, if you claim this towards the face of my grandfather or great grandfather, they would try to shoot you with their rifle lol.

Our genetic is not 100% the same as the Bulgarians, too. Specifically, we show some features of being an isolated community as different from Bulgarians.

[QUOTE = itilvolga; 6297499] Това е много интересно. Чудя се дали помаците от Турция все още имат тази традиция или не. Ако е така, бих искал да посетя някои сватби на Помак, за да го видя. [/ ЦИТА]
Now is the time. I think traditional weddings make them in October and November

Within Greece, it's not "people" who don't let Pomaks to be Pomaks, it's the Turkish government, and you of course who never shy from declaring the Pomaks as Turks...

You tried to assimilate them, when you realized you assimilated Pomaks but not among Greeks you tried to stop Turk influence on them with the forbidden zone in Rhodopes but you couldn't. I have never declared Pomaks as Turks, I just stated Pomaks would prefer Turkish identity more than anything else, and i'm still claiming this because this is what i have seen in my whole life.

This thread is not about their origin but their culture so i'm not going to ruin thread anymore
