I tought 23andme assigned Stears to U5 and nothing deeper just because they are lazy, but seems what her gets is extremely rare among 23andme customers. Could he belong to basal type of U5?!


Wegene assign him to U5b1, which could be Finno-Ugric origin? (it peaks among Saami)


James Lick predictor show something else, U5a1b? It was found in in Mesolithic Latvia and Neolithic Ukraine

1) there is a haplogroup tree on 23andme, with all the subclades which they test for. so you can see which subclades they test under U5. if they gave him just U5, it means he is negative for all those.

2) James Lick seems kind of outdated, and it says all those are "Imperfect Matches" so i trust wegene more.

and they seem to be giving him U5a'b, which is the ancestor of all U5a and U5b, as the first match . it's not U5a1b, it's much broader.

Jameslicks site is solid good and the Most part accurate, but yeah, seems outdated a bit now. It was spot on with my fathers mtdna (H3) but my own (N1b1b, per 23andme), the specific N1b1b clade wasn’t even mentioned as an imperfect match. Think I got at closest match N1b1a2 as closest.

Confusingly, I spoke with a Jewish guy who is mtdna N1b2, who got my subclade as an imperfect match.

his sample was possibly damaged or "rushed" by 23andme, so i would wait some time and contact 23andme if nothing changes, as somebody already recommended

and you could contact some haplogroup U project or somebody who knows more about HVR markers for their opinion
