Magyars are originally from Western Siberia and Bulgars from Pontic steppe as far as I know. Than both moved to Volga region before their migration to Danubian region. I am firm supporter of Ugric origin of Magyars but that doesn't cancel links with Bulgars, whose origins are also disputed (Turkic vs Iranic, my view is Turkic). Name of Hungary come from Onogurs, and those were most certanly Turks (Bulgar kin).

There could also be a Croatian connection;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KuberCroatian researchers have proposed that Kubrat of Onoguria's five sons correspond to the five brothers from White Croatia who took Avaria in 677, whereby Kuber would be Chrobatos

This question is basically ''Were Magyars Turkic once''
Answer is there might be cultural connections long ago but not even their language is Turkic.
