The same reason children of immigrants to the West speak English etc and not their ancestral durka languages?
The latest study into Ancient Roman populations (Moots et al) suggests Iron Age Levantines/Anatolians had a massive effect on the genetics of modern Italians (which we didn't need the study to know), in line with my above estimates.Majority of Levantines lived in cities, who were hard hit by epidemics and destructions. Peasantry of Roman Italy (coloni) were composed mostly of two sources: Aboriginal tribes (of Tyrrhenian, Umbro-Sabellian and Ligurian origin) and Roman colonists (mixed bunch of Latins, Sabines and Etruscans). The only immigrations, who influenced Italo-Roman population were Dorian Greek, Ostrogoth and Lombard.
