They failed because of communism. There is no reason to think that a hypothetical capitalist union involving Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus would fail so long as the people are all for it. In fact, it would be better for all countries involved.

Ukraine? I think any chance of Western Ukraine joining any such union has been blown. I won't mention South Slavs, answer is obvious.

Exactly, that's why I said "as long as the people are for it". Western Ukrainians don't want it but if it happened nothing stands in the way of it succeeding.

It may be a surprise for some but there are very little anti-German attitudes in Russia. Most are either indifferent or positive.
