Unfortunately Galician phonetics have been significantly influenced by Castilian over the past 100 years or so. This has "hardened" the language a bit, IMO.

Still, Portuguese and Galego are considered parallel languages.

Lisbonite Portuguese has evolved very much too. That probably separates the two varieties even more.

I guess something in between (maybe the accent in rural southern Galician towns and northern Portuguese towns) might be closer to the original common language.
