More or less, some were more like Tuscans even. Romans clustered closer to modern Piedmontese and all Iberian populations.

There is a study with lots of Gaulish samples coming next year. I bet my ass they will turn out to be closest to southern French.
Since even Central Italians seems to have been affected by barbarian migrations, central and northern French are probably more northern shifted today due to Germanic admixture.

I doubt it, I think it would rather be Central French, otherwise Iron Age Latins would be way too close to Celtic populations. Plus it's important to specify which populations exactly, it's arguable that non-La Tene people in Toxandria would be pretty Northern.

I thought about that some days ago yes. Northern and Eastern France have received a german input indoubtetly making them more northern than what an original gaul would look like.
