It depends of what kind of relationship is. If a marriage is fabulous, then wife can reach some level as mother (never higher). I speak from the perspective of male. Women are somehow different, i think.

I take it that for those who do have one, it depends on their relationship with their mate and their parents, even though parental love is different than "regular" love in my eyes
