Lightbulb Do people of 1992 fit better in the 1990s or 80s?

I was born in 1992. So it's a special year for me. It's associated with the grunge fashion, which revolutionized fashion in the 1990s. But it still had an 80s flavour. Now, basing on the group photos below, would you say the 1992 fashion & style would be more fitting in the 1980s, or rather similar to the rest of the 1990s?

Or, in the spirit of this forum, do these people "pass" better in the 1980s or 1990s?

My take? Kids easily pass in the 1990s. The adults do not.

I think that people in the photo will fit in easily in 1985-1995 (in the West). 1992 is still a transitional period, which ended only in 2000 (again in the West).
I graduated from school in 2004, and in the photo of that time we look almost the same as you in 1992. It was only then that the world began to change faster.

I'd say in the 80's. People in the 90's were different. Modern people would be something like:

The first half the 1990s fits better in the 1980s.

    Love South Park btw.

The early 90s and late 90s were pretty different as fashion and technology went. Early 80s and late 80s were rather similar, at least in my perception.

I'd say that the (roughly) 1987-1994 period are a period in their own right when it comes to fashion. Mind you - this is a Dutch school picture dating back to 1999. You can see how different the clothes are:

    Ah...1999. Golden year.

Yeah, 1999 looks leagues ahead of the early 1990s, which still look 80s and campy in comparison.

Some of the fashion trends or 'looks' in 1999 can still 'pass' in 2020. Whereas early 1990s is vintage and antiquated now. Lmao.

Madonna in 1999 (still looks 'hip' and modern):

    Forgot-her-name in 1991 (looks vintage):

I always felt that the 80s to 2008 was one big era with 1983 to 1996 being part 1 and 1997 to 2008(before the housing bubble and first black US President) as the another. Though we can also cut the second part at 2001 at 911.

Hm, interesting. I would say 1990-2008 was one big era (part 2 starting after 9/11).

The 80s were just very distinct and peculiar. Wouldn't group them with other decades, but maybe the 70s would come close.
