Ethnically Cossacks are a mix of many things, with dominant Polish and Russian components - just like other "Ukrainians".

Cossacks are like Mestizos in Latin America, a mixed population.

I don't understand how someone with the username Qazaq (or Kazakh) with location as Bukhara is suddenly a Cossack.

Then why are Ukrainians called Cossacks in Southern Russia?

Cossack leader Bogdan Khmelnytsky for example was ethnically Polish.

And his enemy Prince Jeremi Wiśniowiecki was the opposite, a Polonized Rusyn.

Was it not the PLC that created Ukrainian (and Belorussian) identity?

Belarus has little to do with Cossacks yet they also have their own separate identity.

Russia has Cossacks but they didn't try to carve out a new ethnonational identity there in regions where they were a majority.

You know that the Slavic word Kozak-Kazak originated from the Turkic Qazaq, Quzzaq? Kazakhs are so called people from the Turkic languages into English. These mean freedom men

Cossacks were also a creation of the PLC, they emerged in borderlands of the PLC, so called Wild Fields (Dzikie Pola).

Belarusian national identity was never strong. Even today it is not. Have you heard about "Belarusian nationalism"?

Today maybe opposition to Lukashenko are called "nationalists" but they are just pro-democratic / pro-EU people.

Their identity is not strong and has never been.

They were the least problematic minority in pre-war Poland, and today they are willingly getting Russified and forgetting their language.

    They never opposed Polonization/Russification.

In West Ukraine, there was strong nationalism and anti-Polish attitude among some Ukrainians. That was never the case in West Belarus.
