Charlemagne was a Germanic Frank, and the people today that speak the language that is the direct descendent of old Frankish is Dutch. Sallian Franks, who were the ancestors of today's Dutch and Flemish people, kept their language which evolved into Dutch while the Ripuarian or Rhineland Franks were under the influence of old High German to the point that they assimilated to the German language and culture known as Franconian German speakers of western Germany.

French and Germans mostly originate from the Germanic tribes of the Franks.
Therfor they got more in common than they might know from eachother.
I still think the Franks were traitors, they adopted alot of the latin culture and embraced the semitic desert death cult.
